  • The Black Bears conclude the home portion of their 2023 slate when they host Hampton in the Pirates' first-ever trip to Orono on Senior Day at Maine.
  • Maine and Hampton have only met one other time in history, a 31-24 victory by the Black Bears a year ago in Virginia. The win marked Coach Stevens' first victory at the helm of the Black Bears. In the win, Maine registered 449 yards of offense while recording three interceptions on the defensive side. Out of their 449 yards, 226 came on the ground. Maine will be looking for its first win on Senior Day since 2019.
  • The Black Bears are coming off a 37-21 loss at home against UAlbany a week ago. The loss marked the Great Danes' first win in Maine since 2014. In the contest, Derek Robertson threw for three touchdowns to mark the fourth time in his last five outings in which he's tallied three more touchdown passes. One of the scores went to Jamie Lamson as the duo of Lamson and Robertson have now connected for four touchdowns in the past three games. Michael Monios posted a career day with career-highs in receptions (10) and receiving yards (96) to go along with his first touchdown catch of the season. John Costanza led Maine's defensive efforts with a career-high seven tackles. Maine jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the early going but could not overcome UAlbany unanswered scoring attacks of 17-0 and 20-0.
  • Hampton, 1-1 on the road this season, recently snapped its three-game losing streak with a 26-24 win against NC A&T on Oct. 28. Hampton posted 465 yards of offense in the win, 267 of which coming on the ground, as quarterback Chris Zellous threw for 198 yards and two touchdowns while adding a game-high 89 rush yards. The Pirates feature the CAA's top rushing attack, and ninth best in all of the FCS, at 225.9 yards per game behind an offensive line which ranks first in the CAA in sacks allowed. Hampton has struggled on defense, ranking 14th in the CAA in scoring defense after allowing an average of 34.0 points per game and 12th in passing yards allowed (236.4).
  • Derek Robertson has throw for 2,269 yards this season. Currently, that number ranks 13th on Maine's all-time list for single season passing yards. Robertson's 3,830 career passing yards sits him 12th on Maine's all-time career passing yards list, 663 behind Bob Wilder for 11th all-time. Robertson, who has the second best completion percentage (64.5) in the CAA, is sixth nationally in passing yards this season (2,269).
  • Maine's defense has now forced two or more turnovers in five of its first nine games. The Black Hole ranks fourth in the CAA and 19th nationally with 15 turnovers gained. Maine has forced nine turnovers in its last five outings.
  • Stat to watch - Maine ranks third in the CAA in passing yards per game (265.7) and will go up against Hampton's 12th ranked pass defense (236.4). Hampton is tops in the CAA in rushing (225.9) while Maine checks in 13th in the CAA against the run (252.8).
A Maine Win Would:
...Move Maine to 2-0 against Hampton.
...Be Maine's second win over Hampton in as many years
...Snap a three-game losing skid
...Give Maine a winning record at home for 2023
...Snap a three-game losing skid in the month of November.
