Women’s Ice Hockey Earn a 4-4 Draw Against #13 Providence

Auburn, ME - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team earns their second tie of the season with a 4-4 draw against #13 Providence.

First Goal (1-0 Maine): Alyssa Wruble scored first for the Black Bears 4:31 into the first. She was assisted by Mira Seregély and Rahel Enzler.

Second Goal (1-1 Providence): The Friars answered 16:24 into the first. Lindsay Bochna found the back of the net with a solo assist from Isabelle Hardy.

Third Goal (2-1 Maine): Lilli Welcke scored Maine's next goal to give them the lead again 16:57 into the first. Kennedy Little and Luisa Welcke each picked up an assist.

Fourth Goal (3-1 Maine): 7:09 into the second Maine extended their lead with a strong shot from Elise Morphy just in front of the blue line. Ally Johnson and Grace Heiting each earned an assist. 

Fifth Goal (3-2 Providence): Maddy Coene scored an unassisted goal for the friars with just .2 seconds left in the second.

Sixth Goal (3-3 Providence): 4:45 into the third period Providence would tie the game up once again. Lauren DeBlois scored the goal with assists from Caroline Peterson and Reichen Kirchmair.

Seventh Goal (3-4 Providence): Sara Hjalmarsson scored for the Friars to give them the late lead 8:29 into the third period. Hjalmarsson was assisted by Maddy Coene and Lily Hendrikson.

Eighth Goal (4-4 Maine): 13:24 into the third Lilli Welcke would score for her second goal of the night to tie the game. Luisa Welcke and MIra Seregély each had an assist.

The Black Bears then went into overtime where the game ended in a draw. In the shootout for an extra point in the Hockey East standings, Providence came over victorious.

Anna LaRose earned 28 saves in net for Maine.

Sandra Abstreiter also ended with 28 saves in net for the Friars.
