Men's Basketball Drops Matchup at UMBC on Saturday Afternoon, 78-85

Box Score Baltimore, MD – The University of Maine men's basketball dropped a road matchup at UMBC on Saturday afternoon, 78-85.
 
The Black Bears got the score board first in the afternoon matchup against UMBC as Kristians Feierbergs hit a corner three-pointer to get his day going from the field.
 
The Black Bears got their offensive in rhythm early as they went on an 11-0 run out of the opening media timeout to get up 16-5 in the first 6:33 of the contest.
 
Gedi Juozapaitis had it going early in the contest for the Black Bears as he had 10 points in the first 10 minutes of the opening half on a very efficient four of six shooting from the field.
 
The Black Bears hit 14 of their first 18 shots on the afternoon to keep the lead in double-digits at 37-23 with 6:04 remaining in the opening half.
 
The Black Bears went into the half with the half never trailing in the opening 20 minutes of the contest.
 
Gedi Juozapaitis led all scorers as he scored 14 points in the opening half.
 
Maine shot an incredible 65.4% (17 of 26) from the field in the opening half, including an equally impressive 61.5% (8 of 13) from three-point range.
 
The Retrievers came out in the second half and hit the opening bucket before the Black Bears pushed their lead back to double-digits.
 
UMBC began chipping away at the Black Bears lead throughout the middle portion of the second half, trimming the deficit all the way down to one point at 69-68 with just over six minutes remaining in the second half as a media timeout was called.
 
The Retrievers would take their first lead of the contest as one possession later Yaw Obeng-Mensah hit a layup.
 
UMBC took control of the contest down the stretch as they went on a 15-3 run to take a 79-72 lead over the Black Bears with just under two minutes remaining in the contest.
 
UMBC came away with the victory on the afternoon, 85-77.
 
Gedi Juozapaitis led the Black Bears in scoring in the contest as he scored 24 points.
 
Jaden Clayton finished with 13 points and four steals. Ja'Shonté Wright-McLeish finished with 11 points.
 
Tra'Von Fagan led UMBC in scoring on the afternoon as he finished with 21 points.
 
Maine (6-11, 0-4 AE) is back in action on Thursday, Jan. 19 as they travel to Vermont for another America East matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 P.M.
