Durham, NH - The University of Maine women's ice hockey falls to UNH in a back and forth Buffalo Wild Wings Border Battle with a final score of 5-4.
First Goal (1-0 Maine): The Black Bears got the scoring going just 1:07 into the first period. Lilli Welcke began the strong push down the ice connecting with Ava Stevenson who then passed the puck further down the ice to Luisa Welcke who then shot the puck into the back of the net.
Second Goal (1-1 New Hampshire): New Hampshire answered Maine 8:53 into the first period with a goal from Kira Juodikis. Rae Breton took a shot that bounced off the goalie's pads. Chavonne Truter got her stick on the puck before finding Juodikis for the score.
Third Goal (2-1 Maine): 12:54 into the first period Alyssa Wruble scored an unassisted goal to take the lead once again. Wruble stole the puck from a Wildcat on Maine's side of the ice and then skated the distance to go down and fire a shot in for the lead.
Fourth Goal (2-2 New Hampshire): Emily Pinto helped the Wildcats tie the game once again at 14:16 in the first. Brianna Brooks connected with Pinto with a backhanded pass in front of the net to set up the goal.
Fifth Goal (3-2 Maine): Maine scored the only goal of the second period with a beautiful one timer coming 5:15 into the second. Rahel Enzler grabbed the puck that was passed out from behind the net from a Wildcat. Enzler then connected with Mira Seregély who was skating down in front of the net and put the puck in with a one timer.
Sixth Goal (3-3 New Hampshire): 9:24 into the third period UNH would score to tie the Black Bears for the third time during the game with a power play goal. Kira Judodikis snuck the puck in from the front left side of the net for her second of the day. Emily Pinto picked up an assist.
Seventh Goal (4-3 New Hampshire): New Hampshire got the lead for the first time in the game 12:38 into the third period. Tamara Thierus got in between a UMaine pass to put the goal in unassisted.
Eighth Goal (4-4 Maine): 15:33 into the third period Maine tied up the game at four a piece, the fourth tie of the game. Kennedy Little found Emma Lange by the blue line directly in the middle of the net who shot the puck that flew by all the defenders and goalie.
Ninth Goal (5-4 New Hampshire): With just 1:19 seconds left in the game Emily Pinto scored her second of the day for the Wildcats to give them the lead. New Hampshire moved the puck quickly down the ice for the next goal. Kira Judodikis connected in stride with Brianna Brooks who passed across ice to Pinto who snuck the puck in for the game winning goal.
Brooklyn Oakes picked up 25 saves in net for the Black Bears.
Nicky Harnett also finished with 25 saves for New Hampshire.
