ORONO, ME – The University of Maine field hockey team won in shootout fashion against the Great Danes of UAlbany on Sunday afternoon, 2-1.

The two sides both were kept off the scoreboard as both goalkeepers were perfect in the opening half.
Mia Borley (2 saves) for the Black Bears and Hannah Mangan (1 save) for the Great Danes.

The Great Danes got the scoring going as Floor de Ruiter scored the opening goal of the contest midway through the third period. The score was her second of the season.

It would come down to a penalty stroke shot for Maine with no time remaining in the contest when
Poppy Lambert knocked home her sixth goal of the season to force overtime.

The two sides would be kept off the board in both overtime periods, forcing a shootout to decide a winner.

The Black Bears would go 5-5 on their attempts during the shootout, as
Mallory Mackesy,
Chloe Walton,
Tereza Holubcova,
Madisyn Hartley and
Julia Ross all cashed in on their attempts.
Mia Borley would turn away one of the four attempts for the Great Danes.

Borley was excellent in net for the Black Bears, as she racked up a season high 14 saves in the winning effort.

Maine (6-3, 2-0 AE) has run their win-streak to five in-a-row with the win over the Great Danes, who haven't beaten the Black Bears since 2018. Maine will look to keep their good start to Conference play going as they travel to face UMass Lowell on Friday, Sep. 30 before returning home for a matchup against Merrimack College on Sunday, Oct. 2.
