  • Maine travels to Boston College for the 10th meeting between the two programs and Maine's second contest of the year against Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) program.
  • Maine enters action 3-6 all-time against Boston College. The Black Bears will be looking for their first win over the Eagles since 1915, a 14-0 victory in Orono. Maine is 3-0 at home against Boston College but have lost its last six, all in Chestnut Hill. The home team is 9-0 in the series. The two programs last met in 2015, a 24-3 victory by the Eagles.  Maine is 3-8 all-time against current ACC member schools with nine games against Boston College, a loss at Syracuse (41-24 - 2009) and a loss at Pittsburgh (35-29 - 2011). A win for Maine would be its second in school history against a Power-5 opponent (Mississippi State in 2004).
  • Maine will be looking for its fifth win against a FBS opponent in school history. This will be Maine's 29th time in which it has matched up against an FBS program. The Black Bears have four wins against FBS opponents; a 35-10 win last season at UMass (2021); a 31-28 win against Western Kentucky in 2018, a 24-14 win over UMass in 2013, and a 9-7 triumph at Mississippi State in 2004. Maine is 4-24 all-time against FBS level programs.
  • Last time out, Maine reeled off 10 unanswered points in the third quarter to draw within four of Colgate, 14-10, in the third but could not overcome the deficit. A 47-yard field goal late in the fourth to tie the game fell short as Maine dropped a 21-18 decision. The Black Bears posted 362 total yards of offense their home opener, as Shawn Bowman five catches a career-high 73 yards. Defensively, the Black Bears registered 4.0 sacks on the day while limiting Colgate to just 62 yards through the air.
  • Boston College is off to its first 0-2 start since 2011 after suffering setbacks to Rutgers (22-10) and most recently at Virginia Tech (27-10). Through a pair of games, the Eagles check in 13th out of 14 teams in the ACC in scoring (15.5 ppg) and last in both total offense (233.5) and rushing (16.5). On defense, the Eagles rank second in the ACC in passing yards allowed (125.0) and 11th in scoring (24.5).
  • Maine has recorded 6.0 sacks through two games, already half of what the Black Bears were able to total in all of 2021. Maine's six sacks rank tied for fourth among CAA leaders. Maine enters week three tops in the CAA in pass defense and six in all of FCS, holding opponents to just 116.0 yards per game through the air. Quarterback Joe Fagnano, who has thrown only one interception in his last 137 attempts, is averaging 171.0 passing yards per game with his top target being Bowman who ranks 15th in the CAA at 4.0 receptions per game.
