Box Score AMHERST, MA. – The University of Maine fell in overtime against #25 UMass on Saturday afternoon, 4-3.

UMass struck first in the opening contest of the 2022 season as Emily Crawford scored the opening goal. Her score came off of an assist by Bella Ianni, who took the opening shot of the contest and Crawford scored on the rebound.

Maine would answer back in the first period as
Poppy Lambert found the back of the net following a corner opportunity. Her first goal of the season came off of a set up by
Madisyn Hartley (1) and the corner feed by
Tereza Holubcova (1).

UMass would retake the lead midway through the second quarter as Dempsey Campbell received a pass near mid field and took it down the sideline before finding the back of the net.

Mallory Drayer would enter in net after
Mia Borley was injured on the play.

The Black Bears had a quick answer for the second goal as
Mallory Mackesy netted her first collegiate goal, coming off a hustle play by
Sydney Meader (1), who set up Mackesy for the one-timer in front of the net.

Maine wasn't done with their offensive pressure in the first half as they cashed in on their second penalty corner score of the first half, this time coming on a great deflection by
Sydney Meader off of a
Poppy Lambert (1) set up shot.
Julia Ross (1) set up the play on the corner.

UMass got the second half scoring going as Jess Beach tied the game up at 3-3 as she scored on a penalty stroke.

The two sides would remain tied at 3-3 in regulation, so overtime would be needed to decide a winner.

UMass would come away with the overtime victory as Mali Heberhold scored the game-winner for the Minutewomen. Her score came off of an assist by Steph Gottwals.

The Black Bears remain in Amherst to face off against #1 Northwestern on Sunday, Aug. 28 in a neutral site game. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 P.M. EST.
