WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- The University of Maine softball team was defeated by the University of Hartford Hawks, 6-2, on Saturday afternoon at the University of Hartford.

Grace McGouldrick led the game off with a single and later came around to score on an Izzy Nieblas' sacrifice fly. The lead would be short lived. Hartford scored five runs in the bottom half of the first thanks to an error, one walk, a single, and a three-run home run. After the first inning, Maine trailed 5-1.
 
The Black Bears scored one with the bases loaded and no outs in the top of the second inning. At the end of two complete, Hartford held a 5-2 advantage.
 
The Hawks added another run, but it was the final of the afternoon. Maine fell 6-2.
 
Notes:

• Caitlyn Fallon went the distance for the Black Bears and allowed only one earned run. The junior allowed nine hits while striking out one.
• Izzy Nieblas recorded the Black Bears' lone RBI, while seven different players recorded a hit.

 
Next: This concludes the regular season for the University of Maine softball team. The America East conference playoffs begin next Wednesday, May 11.
