BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- The University of Maine softball team was defeated by the University of Massachusetts River Hawks, 7-1, in game number one, while being defeated by the University of Hartford Hawks, 5-4, in game number two on Wednesday afternoon at Binghamton University in the opening round of the America East tournament.
Game One - Maine: 1 UMass Lowell: 7
In the bottom of the first inning, UMass Lowell scored two runs on a bases loaded walk and hit by pitch. They held a 2-0 lead after six total outs.

Keely Clark drove home
Kelby Drews with a single to second base. The Black Bears cut into the River Hawk's lead in the top of the second and made it 2-1. UMass Lowell quickly regained their original lead and then some. The home team scored two on a sacrifice fly. After two innings, Maine trailed 4-1.

The River Hawks added two more runs in the bottom of the third with a double to right field. After 18 total outs, the Black Bears were facing a 6-1 deficit. They tossed on one more run in their half of the fourth. The lead was now 7-1. It was the final run of the game as Maine fell by that score.

Notes:
- Emily Reid and Caitlyn Fallon both appeared in the first game of the afternoon. The two allowed five earned runs while striking out four.
- Keely Clark recorded the Black Bears' lone RBI, while six different players recorded a hit.

Game Two - Maine: 4 Hartford: 5
Kya Enos started a rally when she reached base with two outs in the top of the first inning.
Kelby Drews followed with a single to right field.
Izzy Nieblas scored both of her teammates with a double to deep left. After the top of the first inning, Maine led 2-0.

Hartford scored a run in the bottom of the fourth and fifth inning to tie the America East Tournament game at two runs apiece after five complete innings.

The Black Bears regained the lead with a two-run home run from
Gabby Papushka in the top of the sixth inning. The Hawks got one back in the bottom of the sixth, but Maine held a 4-3 after six complete.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Hartford scored two runs to walk-off the Black Bears. It concluded the 2022 season for Maine.
