Baseball Takes Game One Over UMass Lowell, 5-4

Lowell, MA – The University of Maine baseball team made it 14-straight victories as they picked up the win over UMass Lowell Friday night, 5-4.
 
Second Inning: Connor Goodman gets the Black Bears on the board first as he hit a sac-fly to center field, bringing home Joe Bramanti. Jake Marquez added on with an RBI single to left field, scoring Scout Knotts. Jeff Mejia would draw a bases-loaded walk to bring home Jeremiah Jenkins, making it a 3-0 game.
 
Fritz Genther answered back for the Riverhawks in the bottom of the frame as he hit a 2-run home run to left field, scoring Ryan Proto on the play. Robert Gallagher tied the contest up at 3-3 as he hit an RBI single to right field, scoring Alex Luccini on the play.
 
Fifth Inning: Following a leadoff double by Jordan Schulefand and a sac-bunt by Jeff Mejia, Quinn McDaniel brings home Schulefand with a sac-fly to center field. Joe Bramanti came in to score later on an error by the UMass Lowell defense on a groundball hit by Jeremiah Jenkins.
 
Brandon Fish got one back in the bottom of the frame for UMass Lowell as he hit a double to left center, driving home Robert Gallagher.
 
LJ Keevan's day came to an end after 5 innings of work as he allowed 5 runs (4 earned) on 5 hits, 3 walks and striking out 3.
 
Trevor LaBonte's day came to an end after 5 innings of work, allowing 4 earned runs on 7 hits, 3 walks and striking out 3.
 
Colin Fitzgerald shutout the Riverhawks in his relief appearance for the Black Bears, throwing 3-shutout innings, allowing 1 hit, 2 walks and striking out 4. (2 saves)
 
Matthew Pushard picked up his 8th save of the season as he pitched the ninth, allowing no  runs, no hits, 1 walk and striking out 2.
 
Trevor LaBonte (4-3) picked up the win for the Black Bears.
 
LJ Keevan (4-4) picked up the loss for the Riverhawks.
 
Maine, who moves to 19-3 in America East play, stays in Lowell to take on the Riverhawks in the second game of the three-game series on Saturday, May 7. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 P.M.
