WEST HARTFORD, CT – The University of Maine baseball team dropped the second game of the weekend series against the Hartford Hawks, 11-9.
First Inning:
Jordan Schulefand took the first pitch of the game and hit a home run to left field, grabbing an early 1-0 lead for the Black Bears.
Second Inning: Devon Kellogg tied the contest up at 1-1 as he hit a solo home run to left field.
Third Inning: Maine would take back the lead in the top of the frame as
Quinn McDaniel hit a 2-run home to left field, scoring
Jordan Schulefand.
Tremayne Cobb Jr. would answer in a big way for his squad as he hit a 3-run home run in the bottom of the third frame, scoring Derek Tenney and Donnie Cohoon. Devon Kellogg added on to the Hartford lead as he hit a double to right center, scoring Daniel Burnett.
Fourth Inning:
Jeff Mejia tied the contest up at 5-5 as he hit his first home run of the season, a 2-run home run to right center, scoring
Jake Marquez.
Tremayne Cobb Jr. would get the lead back for Hartford in the bottom of the frame as he hit a single to left field, scoring Logan Cole.
Caleb Leys's day came to an end in the fifth inning as he went 4 and 1/3 innings, allowing 8 earned runs on 9 hits, 3 walks and striking out 2.
Fifth Inning: Kevin Koziol increased the hawks lead in the fifth inning as he singled to center field, scoring Daniel Burnett. Derek Tinney broke the game wide open as he hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Sixth Inning:
Jordan Schulefand got one back for the Black Bears as he hit an infield single to shortstop, scoring
Ryan Turenne.
Tim Blaisdell's day came to an end for Hartford as he went 5 and 1/3, allowing 6 earned runs on 9 hits, 1 walk and striking out 3.
Quinn McDaniel would make it a 11-7 contest as he hit a double to left field, scoring
Jeff Mejia.
Ninth Inning:
Quinn McDaniel chipped away at the Hartford lead in the final frame as he hit a 2-run home run, his second of the game, scoring
Connor Goodman.
Tim Blaisdell (3-7) picked up the win for the Hawks.
Will Nowak picked up his 4
th save of the season as came in during the ninth inning, allowing no runs on no hits, no walks and striking out 3.
Caleb Leys (3-3) took the loss for the Black Bears.
Maine, who drops to 21-8 in America East action, wraps up the regular reason on Saturday, May 21 against Hartford. First pitch is scheduled for 10 A.M.
