ORONO, ME – The University of Maine baseball team evened the series up at 1-1 with NJIT as they took game 2, 13-8 Saturday afternoon.

First Inning:
Scout Knotts gets the Black Bears off to an early 2-0 lead as he hit a 2-run single to center field, bringing home
Jeff Mejia and
Jeremiah Jenkins.

Second Inning:
Jeff Mejia made it 3-0 Black Bears as he hit an RBI single to center field, bringing home
Jake Marquez, who was advanced on a pair of sacrifice bunts by the Black Bears.

Third Inning:
Jake Marquez got the Black Bears going in the bottom of the frame as he hit a sac-fly to center field, bringing home
Quinn McDaniel.
Connor Goodman then made it 6-0 Maine as he hit a 2-run double to right field, driving home
Scout Knotts and
Joe Bramanti.

Grant Vurpillat's day came to an end in the second inning as he lasted only 2 and 2/3 innings, allowing 6 earned runs and getting only one strikeout.

Fourth Inning: Isiah Daubon got NJIT on the board in the top of the fourth as he drew a bases loaded walk, bringing home Julio Marcano. Nick Hussey then followed with an RBI-single to left field, bringing home Paul Franzoni.

Fifth Inning: Luke Longo plated a pair for NJIT as he hit a double into the left field gap, bringing home Albert Choi and David Marcano.

Caleb Leys day came to an end after 5 complete innings, allowing 4 earned runs and striking out 5.

Sixth Inning: Andrew Elcock laid down a sac-bunt that was thrown away by the Maine defense, allowing Nick Hussey to score from second base.

David Marcano gave NJIT their first lead of the game as he hit a no-doubt home run to left field, bringing home Andrew Elcock on the 2-run shot, as NJIT took over a 7-6 lead.

Joe Bramanti promptly took the lead back for the Black Bears in the bottom of the 6
th inning as he hit a 2-run shot to right field, bringing home
Quinn McDaniel on the play.

Seventh Inning:
Jeff Mejia gave the Black Bears their 9
th run of the contest as he hit an RBI double to left field, bringing home
Jordan Schulefand.

Eighth Inning: Jared Donnelly gave NJIT their second home run of the afternoon as he hit a solo shot to right field.

Jake Marquez had an answer in the bottom of the frame as he hit an RBI single to left field, bringing home
Joe Bramanti.

Connor Goodman cleared the bases with a 3-run double in the next at bat for the Black Bears as he made it a 5-RBI Day and increased the Black Bear's lead to 13-8.

Matthew Pushard (2-1) earned the victory in relief for the Black Bears, as he pitched 4 innings, allowing 2 earned runs and striking out 6.

Maine and NJIT will square off for the final time on the weekend as game 3 is scheduled for Noon on Sunday, April 10.
