ORONO, ME – The University of Maine baseball dropped the opening matchup against NJIT Friday night, 4-3.

Third Inning: NJIT broke through in the score column as they plated 3 runs in the top of the frame. David Marcano scored on a throwing error by the Black Bears to kick off the weekend. Isiah Daubon then hit a 2-out triple to bring home a pair of runs, Paul Franzoni and Albert Choi.

Fourth Inning: Julio Marcano singled to shortstop and following an error by the Black Bears, Luke Longo came around to score.

In the bottom of the frame,
Ryan Turenne got the Black Bears on the board as he hit a sac-fly to right field, bringing home
Quinn McDaniel.

Fifth Inning: Maine would strike again as
Jeremiah Jenkins brought home Maine's second run with a single to left-center.
Jordan Schulefand scored on the play.
Joe Bramanti would bring in Maine's second run of the inning on a sac-fly to center field, bringing home
Jeff Mejia.

Trevor Labonte's day came to an end after the fifth inning as he went 5 full frames, allowing 4 runs (1 earned) and striking out 7. Labonte (2-3) took the loss for Maine

Ryan Fischer's day also came to an end after 5 frames, as he allowed 3 earned runs and struck out 1. Fischer (5-2) got the win for NJIT

Evan Gegeckas picked up his first save of the season as he threw 4 innings of shutout ball, striking out 5.
