BALTIMORE, MD – The University of Maine baseball team took game two over the UMBC Retrievers on Saturday afternoon, 15-14.

Second Inning:
Jake Marquez gets the Black Bears on the board first in the Saturday afternoon contest as he hit an RBI-single to left field, bringing home
Scout Knotts.

Third Inning: Connor Kelly scored the tying run as Nolan Charlton put a ball in play that was thrown away by the Maine defense, allowing Kelly to come all the way around from first to score. Myles Nicholson gave UMBC the lead later in the inning as he hit a single to center, bringing home Charlton.

Caleb Leys day would come to an end for the Black Bears in the 4
th inning as he his control deserted him in the inning. He threw 3 and 2/3 innings, allowing 2 unearned runs, 1 hit, 5 walks and 4 strikeouts.

Colton Carson would come on for the Black Bears in a bases loaded, 2-out situation, to which he struck out the lone batter he faced in the frame.

Jayden Shertel's day came to an end after 4 innings of work, as he allowed one earned run and struck out one for UMBC.

Fifth Inning: Justin Taylor gave UMBC their third run of the contest as he hit an RBI single to right field, bringing home Myles Nicholson.

Sixth Inning:
Jake Rainess made it a 3-2 game as he scored on a wild pitch after hitting a leadoff double for the Black Bears.
Jake Marquez would tie the game as he also scored on a wild pitch.

Maine would break the inning open from there as
Jeremiah Jenkins hit a 2-run single to right field, bringing home
Jeff Mejia and
Jordan Schulefand.

Joe Bramanti would then cap off the 6-run frame for Maine as he hit his second home run of the weekend, a no-doubter to left field. His two-run shot brought home Jenkins.

UMBC would get one back in the bottom of the frame as Ian Diaz hit an RBI groundout to second, bringing home Tony Krueger.

Seventh Inning: Maine would keep the offense going as
Jeff Mejia hit an RBI single to center, bringing home
Jake Marquez.
Jeremiah Jenkins would make it back-to-back RBI singles to center as he drove in
Jordan Schulefand.
Quinn McDaniel would run the score up to 10-4 as he made it 3-straight RBI singles for the Black Bears, driving in Mejia.

The Maine offense would hit a Grand Slam for the second-straight game as
Scout Knotts cleared the bases in the 7
th, bringing home Jenkins, McDaniel and Bramanti. Maine would grow their lead to 14-4.
UMBC would get some runs back in the bottom of the frame as Drew Roberts hit an RBI single to right field, bringing home Luke Johnson. Matt Ryan would drive in a pair with a single to left field, bringing home Justin Taylor and Drew Roberts.

Myles Nicholson brought home another pair of runs as Matt Ryan and Tony Krueger score on single to left.

Another pair of runners would come home on a groundout that Maine recorded an out on, but then threw it away trying to convert the double play, bringing the score to 14-11.

Jeff Mejia gives Maine a 2-run lead in the ninth as he hits a single to left field, bringing home
Jake Marquez.

UMBC would get one back in the bottom of the frame as Justin Taylor hit a sac-fly to center field, bringing home Luke Johnson.

Noah Lewis (1-2) picks up the win for the Black Bears, as he pitched 1 and 1/3 innings, allowing 6 runs and striking out 2.

Evan Selmer (2-2) took the loss for UMBC, allowing 3 runs in a 1/3 of inning pitched.

Matthew Pushard (3) picked up the save, throwing 3 innings, allowing 3 runs and striking out 4.

Maine, who already has won the series with back-to-back wins, will be looking to complete the weekend sweep on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
