BALTIMORE, MD – The University of Maine baseball team improved to 5-2 in America East action as they defeated the UMBC Retrievers, 17-1 Friday night.

First Inning:
Quinn McDaniel made it a 1-0 game in the top of the first as he hit a solo home run to left field.
Â
Joe Bramanti would come in to score late in the inning as Luke Johnson threw an errant pick-off throw, resulting in Bramanti being able to score from third base.

Third Inning:
Quinn McDaniel made it 3-0 Black Bears as he hit a Sac-Fly, bringing home
Jeff Mejia from third, giving McDaniel his 2
nd RBI of the day.

Fourth Inning:
Jordan Schulefand gets the big fourth inning going for the Black Bears as he cashes in on a bases loaded double, driving in a pair of runs,
Jake Rainess and
Ryan Turenne.
Jeff Mejia follows up with an RBI single to center field, bringing home
Jake Marquez.

Luke Johnson's day would come to an end as he lasted only 3 and 1/3 innings, allowing 6 runs and striking out only 1.

Joe Bramanti caps off a 7-run inning for the Black Bears in a big way, a grand slam, clearing the bases and making it 10-0 Maine.

Logan Doran got UMBC on the board in the bottom of the frame as he hit an RBI double to left field, bringing home Ian Diaz.

Sixth Inning:
Joe Bramanti added onto to his already impressive night with another pair of runs as he hit a 2-run double to center field, bringing home
Jeff Mejia and
Quinn McDaniel.

Trevor Labonte's day came to an end for the Black Bears in the sixth. He threw 5 and 2/3 innings, allowing a single run, two hits and striking out 3.

Seventh Inning: The Black Bears drove in another 5 runs in the top of the frame to make it 17-1.

Jordan Schulefand drove in
Jake Marquez for an RBI. Schulefand later scored on a wild pitch.

Joe Bramanti made it an 8-RBI night as he hit a double to right field, bringing home

Trevor Labonte (2-2) picked up the win for Maine.

Colin Fitzgerald picked up the 3 and 1/3 inning save, allowing one hit, no runs and striking out 7. The save was the first of his collegiate career.

Luke Johnson (2-1) takes the loss for UMBC.

These two teams will face off on Saturday, April 2 for game 2 of the weekend series. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 P.M.
