Softball Drops Final Two Games at Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, Conn. -- The University of Maine softball team was defeated by the Quinnipiac University Bobcats, 3-2, in game number one, while being defeated in game number two, 6-4, by the University of Hartford on Sunday afternoon at Quinnipiac Softball Field.

In the top of the second, the Black Bears took a 1-0 lead. With Jasmine Gray standing on third, Grace McGouldrick lifted a sacrifice fly to right field. After two innings at Quinnipiac, Maine held a 1-0 lead.
 
Kya Enos manufactured a run in the top of the sixth for Maine. The senior singled, stole second, stole third, then crossed home on an RBI single by Jasmine Gray.
 
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Quinnipiac scored three runs in part to three Black Bear errors. They were the final runs of the first game as Maine fell, 3-2.

Hartford wasted no time grabbing an early lead. The Hawks third hitter of the game blasted a two-run home run. After one inning, Maine trailed 2-0.
 
Kelby Drews tied the non-conference game with a two-run single. Brianna Neely and Gabby Papushka, who reached earlier in the inning, both came around to score on the base hit. Maine and Hartford were tied 2-2 after three innings at Quinnipiac.
 
With two outs and two on, Jasmine Gray ripped a two-run double to left field in the bottom of the fifth inning. Emma Larke and Brianna Neely both scored on the two-bagger. After five complete innings, Maine led 4-2.
 
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Hartford hit a two-run home run to tie the ball game at four runs apiece. At the end of six, 4-4 was the score.
 
Hartford hit another two-run home run in the top of the seventh. They were the final runs of the afternoon as Maine dropped the second game of the day, 6-4.
 
Notes: Next: The Black Bears will play a mid-week doubleheader at UMass on March 30. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
