LOGAN, Ut. -- The University of Maine softball team was defeated by Idaho State University, 12-4, in game number one, while also being defeated in game number two, 7-3, by Utah State on Saturday afternoon at LaRee & LeGrand Johnson Field.

Maine: 4 Idaho State: 12

The Bengals scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Idaho State placed two runners on base before they cleared the bases with a double. After one inning, Maine trailed 2-0.

The Black Bears scored three runs in the top of the second inning. Mariah Pearson doubled home Kelby Drews before Keely Clark crushed a two run home run.

Kya Enos added another for the Black Bears with a solo shot in the top of the third inning. The lead was short-lived for Maine. In the bottom of the third, Idaho State regained an advantage on the scoreboard. A three run homerun, a two run double, an RBI single, a sacrifice, a steal of home plate, and an error added up to nine total runs for the Bengals. At the end of three, Maine trailed 11-4.

Idaho State walked-off the Black Bears with a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth inning, 12-4.

Notes:

Emily Reid, Caitlyn Fallon, and Alexandra Gruitch all appeared in the first game of the afternoon. They combined to allow 12 earned while striking out three.
Kya Enos and Keely Clark both hit home runs in the game one loss. Mariah Pearson drove in the other run.

Maine: 3 Utah State: 7
The Aggies posted a run in the bottom of the first inning. It was the product of an error committed by the Black Bears.

Utah State manufactured a run with a sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the third inning. The base running reached earlier on a walk.

The lead for the Aggies was extended in the bottom of the fourth. They pushed across five runs to snag a 7-0 lead.

In the top half of the six, Maine scored three runs. Rebecca Findley recorded one run on a ground out before Izzy Nieblas drove in two on a single. It was as close as the Black Bears would get as they fell, 7-3.

Rebecca Findley and Izzy Nieblas combined to drive in Maine's three RBI, while Kelby Drews tallied two hits.

Next: The Black Bears return to the diamond Saturday, Saturday, March 26 for another doubleheader, this time at Quinnipiac. First pitch for the round robin is scheduled for 9:00 am.
