OREM, Ut. -- The University of Maine softball team was defeated by Utah Valley University, 6-5, in game number one, while also being defeated in game number two, 5-2, on Wednesday evening at Wolverine Softball Field.

The Wolverines manufactured a run in the bottom of the first inning.
Caitlyn Fallon fell into a groove and limited the damage to one.

Izzy Nieblas tied the non-conference game at one run a piece with a solo shot in the top of the third inning.
Â
UVU regained the lead with three runs in the bottom of the third inning. A sacrifice fly and a pass ball equaled two runs for the Wolverines.

Gabby Papushka and
Kelby Drews both drove in a run in the top of the fifth inning.
Keely Clark and
Izzy Nieblas both touched home in the game tying inning.

By scoring three runs in the bottom half of the fifth, the lead was again snagged by UVU. Maine cut into the 6-3 deficit with a two-run home run from
Rebecca Findley. The round tripper was the first of Findley's career.

The 6-5 lead for the Wolverines would stand as Maine dropped the first game of the doubleheader.

In the top of the first inning, the Black Bears scored two runs.
Izzy Nieblas recorded the only RBI in the first, before she came around to score on an error committed by the Wolverines.
Gabbie Siciliano went 1-2-3 in the bottom half. After one complete, Maine led 2-0.

UVU tied the ball game in the bottom of the second with a double and an error. We had a tie game after two innings, 2-2. By the way of two home runs, UVU took a 5-2 after three innings in Orem.

No more runs would be scored in the non-conference contest as Maine dropped both ends of the double header.
