ALBANY, NY - The University of Maine men's basketball team downed the Great Danes of UAlbany Wednesday night by a final score of 73-63.
Both sides had an up and down first half, as they game had a trend to be low-scoring as the halftime score was 29-28, with the Black Bears holding onto the small lead.
The Great Danes came out hot in the second half as the erased the Black Bear lead and captured a 10-point lead themselves, 42-32, capped off by a Matt Cerruti layup.
Maks Klanjscek started an anwser for the Black Bears as he buried one of his 5 3-pointers on the night to start to chip into the UAlbany lead.
Vukasin Masic chimed in with a 3-pointer of his own as Maine went on a 9-0 run after the Great Danes had gotten out to the 10-point lead.
Later on in the second half Masic hit a big transition 3-pointer to get the lead back for the Black Bears with 9:38 left in the contest, and the Black Bears never looked back.
Stephane Ingo hammered home a dunk for the Black Bears with 2:28 left that increased the Maine lead to 70-54, the biggest margin of the contest for either side, and that was all it took to create a lead that the Great Danes couldn't could back from.
Maine would go on to win by a final score of 73-63, led by the terrific outing by Klanjscek, who finsihed with 21 points on 8-11 shooting and a perfect 5-5 from 3-point range. Masic chipped in with an incredible 15 point, 7 rebound, 6 assist and 0 turnover night.
Cerruti led the Great Danes in scoring with 14, as Jamel Horton (10 pts) and Jarvis Doles (10 pts) rounded out the leading scorers for UAlbany.
Maine, who picked up their second conference win of the season, returns to the Cross Insurance Center as the Stony Brook Seawolves come to Maine for a Sunday, Feb. 13 matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 P.M.
