ORONO, ME – The University of Maine women's ice hockey has win-streak snapped at 6 as the Catamounts of Vermont win, 2-1.
FIRST GOAL (1-0 Vermont) – Theresa Schafzahl got the Catamount out to an early 1-0 lead as she picked off a pass by a Black Bear defender in the offensive zone and promptly fired it past
Jorden Mattison in the Black Bears net. The un-assisted score was her 17
th of the season.
SECOND GOAL (2-0 Vermont) – Ellice Murphy got open near the blue line on a long possession for a tired Black Bears defense and fired home her 3
rd of the season. Bell Parento (4) and Kristina Shanahan (10) picked up the assists.
THIRD GOAL (2-1 Maine) – The Black Bears found an answer late in the third period as
Ida Press (7) fired a shot on net that was knocked up and brought in by
Ali Beltz (10) who found
Ida Kuoppala wide open off to the side of the net. For Kuoppala, it was her team-leading 9
th of the season.
The Catamounts would hold onto the slim 1-score lead for the final minute of regulation, extended their win-streak to 8. For the Black Bears, their win-streak ends at 6.
Jorden Mattison stopped 25 of 27 in net for the Black Bears.
Jessie McPherson stopped 22 of 23 in the winning effort for the Catamounts.
Maine (12-14-1, 10-9-1) are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 5 as they will be hosting their Skating Strides event at Alfond Arena. Puck drop is 2:00 P.M.
