Katherine Cowan (pentathlon) and
Yasmen Farag (pole vault) each captured individual titles on day one of the America East Indoor Track & Field Championships at Boston University. After one day of competition, the University of Maine women's track & field team stands in fourth place with 31 points.
Cowan won the high jump (1.66m), shot put (10.84m), and long jump (5.26m) on her way to a title in the women's pentathlon after compiling 3,491 total points in the event. Farag, who entered the event as the top ranked pole vaulter in the league, earned the championship in the event after clearing 3.75m.
Mackenzie Wilson placed fifth in the weight throw as her throw of 17.38m moved her into second on Maine's all-time indoor top-10 list.
Emma White added a fifth place finish as she compiled 3,140 points, winning the 800m at 2:29.65, to earn fifth place in the pentathlon.
Erica Magnuson followed closely behind Wilson in the weight throw, placing sixth with a throw of 17.11m.
Oliviah Damboise placed 11th in the pole vault, clearing 3.05m, while
Shanna Scribner added an 11th place tally with a throw of 14.68m in the weight throw.
Paige Boudreau came home 12th in the weight throw at 14.11m.
Grace Minkin was Maine's top finisher in the long jump as she placed 22nd at 4.88m.
In the prelims, Maine featured two athletes who posted marks high enough to qualify them for the final round of competition on day two.
Tegan Morrison placed sixth in the 500m with a time of 1:16.15. Her time, a personal record, moved her into fourth on Maine's all-time indoor top-10 list in the event.
Darcy Cochran also qualified for the day two finals after placing sixth in the 60m hurdles at 9.16.
