ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine softball team and new head coach,
Jordan Fitzpatrick, hit the road for a four-game round robin tournament, Liberty Classic, on the campus of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.

The Black Bears went 1-4 in their first weekend of play during the 2022 season. Maine defeated the Georgia Southern Eagles 14-4 for the first win under head coach
Jordan Fitzpatrick.

Keely Clark was one for four Black Bears to return to the state of Maine with a batting average north of .350. More specifically, the senior catcher hit a red hot .625 over the long weekend in Statesboro, Georgia. Clark tallied five hits and two RBI over her eight at bats.
Kelby Drews and
Mariah Pearson each eclipsed the .440 mark. Drews jumped on the return flight home with a home run, three RBI and eight total hits. Pearson logged four hits and four RBI.

Kya Enos and
Gabby Papushka had a taste for extra bases. Enos left the muggy weather with two doubles, two triples, one home run, and seven RBI. Papushka crushed two home runs, including one in her first career at bat. For her weekend efforts,
Gabby Papushka was named America East Rookie of the Week.

Gabbie Siciliano,
Emily Reid, and
Alexandra Gruitch all made appearances over the first five games of the newly minted season. Siciliano led the way with a 3.09 ERA, one win, one complete game, and two strikeouts over 11.1 total innings.
