Men's Basketball Drops Close Contest vs UAlbany, 72-68

ORONO, ME – The University of Maine men's basketball team dropped a home matchup against the UAlbany Great Danes Wednesday night, 72-68.

The Black Bears were in the control of the game early as they grew their lead early in the contest to a 16 point-lead, at 35-19.

UAlbany would start to chip away at the deficit as the half would start to wind down, trimming the first half hole to only 7-points, a 37-30 Maine lead.

The Great Danes would come out in the second half and grab control of the lead just 8 minutes  into the period following a Trey Hutcheson 3-pointer.

The two sides would begin trading the lead as neither team ever got out to more than a 6-point lead for the entirety of the remaining time in second half.

Following some missed free throws by the Black Bears, Maine found itself only down 2 going into the final minute.

Trey Hutcheson would bury his pair of free throws to make the lead 72-68 with under a second remaining, capping off a tough fought match by both sides.

The Great Danes were led in scoring by Matt Cerruti (18 pts) and Jamel Horton (14 pts).

Maine was led by Byron Ireland (13 pts), Maks Klanjscek (12 pts) and Peter Filipovity (11 pts).
