STATESBORO, Ga. -- The University of Maine softball team was defeated by North Dakota State, 8-2, in the final game of the five game Georgia swing.
 
Maine: 2 North Dakota State: 8
The scoring for North Dakota State began in the bottom of the second inning. The Bison worked a walk and combined two singles with a double for three runs. They tacked on one more run in the bottom of the third.
 
UMaine pushed two runs across home with a rally in the top of the fourth inning. Grace McGouldrick laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt. Kya Enos touched home after the bunt. Mariah Pearson ripped an RBI single, allowing Gabby Papushka to score. NDSU matched the Black Bear runs with two of their own. After four complete, Maine trailed 6-2.
 
The Bison posted a run in the fifth and sixth inning. They were the final runs of the contest as Maine fell, 8-2.
 
Notes:

• Emily Reid started the final game and went 5.0 innings. The senior struck out four and allowed seven runs. Gabbie Siciliano went the final inning, while allowing one earned run.
• Kya Enos, Kelby Drews, and Mariah Pearson all recorded a hit. Grace McGouldrick and Pearson tallied the two RBI.

Next: The Black Bears return to the diamond Friday, February 25 in Lynchburg, Virginia. First pitch against George Washington University on the campus of Liberty University is scheduled for 10:00 am.
