Orono, Maine -- The Black Bears totaled their highest point total since 2019 while hitting a season-high 13 three pointers to earn an 88-60 victory over Army on Sunday afternoon.
Caroline Bornemann poured in a career-high 29 points to go along with nine rebounds while
Jaycie Christopher finished with seven three pointers and a career-best 26 points with seven rebounds in the victory. Christopher's seven triples were the most by a Black Bear since
Kelly Fogarty's school-record 10 back on Jan. 3, 2021.
Adrianna Smith turned in 14 points, her third double-digit performance in her last four outings, with six assists.
Maine, which outscored Army 22-9 in the second quarter, put forth its best overall shooting day of the season with a 56.4 clip (31-55) from the floor and a 13-for-25 (52.0) mark from three-point range.
The Black Bears dominated the glass by a 37-25 margin while forcing 12 Army turnovers.
Maine, which never trailed in the contest, started the game on fire from the floor and never cooled off. The Black Bears raced out to a 9-2 advantage. The lead swelled to double-figures on Bornemann's triple with 1:58 left in the first quarter.
Army cut the lead down to seven midway through the second quarter but Maine responded. The Black Bears closed the period with a 14-2 run. Back-to-back triples from Christopher started the run before Bornemann ended the sprint with a three of her own to give Maine a 45-25 advantage at the half.
The Knights kept charging, trimming the lead to 15 late in the third, but Maine once again ended the quarter strong. Four unanswered points from Smith began a 12-3 run for Maine. An old fashioned three point play from Christopher gave Maine its largest lead of the afternoon, 70-44, with just eight seconds left in the third.
Maine, leading by 20 early in the fourth, slammed the door shut in the final quarter with a 14-4 run.
Olivia Rockwood's triple, followed by a layup from Rockwood off her offensive board, moved the lead to 28. After Army cut the lead to 27, Christopher's seventh and final triple of the game gave Maine its largest lead of the game, 88-58.
The Black Bears cruised to the victory down the stretch, taking the contest 88-60.
Maine returns to action on Dec. 18 when it travels to take on Harvard at 3 p.m.
