Field Hockey is Set to Begin 2022 America East Tournament Against #5 Stanford

ORONO, ME - The University of Maine field hockey team will play host to Stanford University in the America East Semifinals on Friday, Nov. 4 at 12:00 P.M.

ABOUT #23/#1 BLACK BEARS

Maine is comes into the matchup against Stanford after having completed the 2022 regular season with a perfect conference record of 8-0. This was the first time in program history that Maine had accomplished this feat.

The Black Bears have had one of the best offenses in the Nation heading into their matchup against the Catamounts, as they concluded the regular season scoring the third most goals per game in the country (3.56). Leading the offense has been Junior back, Poppy Lambert, whose 21 goals were the top in the America East and tied her for third in the country for the regular season. Her 21 goals have also tied her with Lynn Shostak for the most goal in a single season in program history. Lambert earned the conference's defensive player of the year for her outstanding season for the Black Bears, along with First-Team All-Conference and All-Academic Team Honors
 
Assisting on a lot of those scores has been Senior midfielder, Madisyn Hartley. Hartley's 0.94 assists per game and 17 assists have her ranked first in nation in that category.

Chloe Walton turned it on down the stretch for Maine, scoring nine of her 11 goals on the season over the final eight games for the Black Bears, including two goal performances against Merrimack and California in back-to-back contests. Her 11 total goals tied her for fifth in the conference. Walton also dished out six assists on the season on her way to being named the Conferences Offensive Player of the Year, along with First-Team All-Conference.

Meader enjoyed her best statistical season of her collegiate career. She tallied career highs in goals (9), assists (6), points (24), and shots attempted (40) as she earned All-Conference Second Team honors.

Borley finished with a 14-2 record in net for the Black Bears. Borley turned in a career-best .788 save percentage, a career-high 93 saves, a 1.595 goals against average, and three shutouts. Her save percentage ranked her 11th in the country and her win-loss mark was third best in the nation. She was named to the All-Conference Second Team.

Mackesy completed the season tied for fifth in the conference in goals scored with 11 as she was named to the All-Rookie Team. Her 45 shots attempted ranked her ninth best in the conference in that category.

ABOUT #5 STANFORD

Stanford comes into their matchup against the Black Bears after having upset #4 Vermont in the opening contest of the America East quartfinals on Thursday, Nov. 3 by a final score of 2-1.

Tottie Taylor got the scoring going early on in the contest as she received the ball from Scout Butler to grab an early 1-0 lead in the first quarter.

The Catamounts would tie the contest up with just under seven minutes remaining in the contest before Haley Mossmer broke the tie for Stanford with 1:46 left in the contest. Her score was her eighth goal of the season, pacing her squad in that category on the season.

Daisy Ford and Kendall Dowd combined in net to hold the Catamounts to just the single goal in the 2-1 victory on Thursday.
