PREVIEW: Men's Basketball Heads on the Road to Face CCSU

Orono, ME - The University of Maine men's basketball team heads to Connecticut to face off against the Blue Devils of Central Connecticut State University on Wednesday, Nov. 23.

HISTORY:

This will be the 15th time these two programs will be squaring off, with the Blue Devils holding the all-time record, 10-4, including a win the last time these two met back on Nov. 23, 2021. CCSU won that matchup 64-56.

ABOUT THE BLACK BEARS:

Maine is coming off of a 93-70 victory over the Lions of Columbia on Friday, Nov. 18. Maine is off to a 3-1 start, their best start since the 2013-14 season (3-1).

The Black Bears were led in the scoring department by Kellen Tynes. Tynes is coming off of a career high 21 points in the win over Columbia. He was a very efficient 10 of 13 from the field, while grabbing three rebounds, dishing out two assists, blocking two shots and swiping four steals in the win.

Tynes has been one of the best defenders in the country to begin the 2022-23 season, as his 3.5 steals per game ranks him fifth in the country in that category.

Jaden Clayton continued his great start to his collegiate career as he had another solid night of distributing the ball for the Black Bears. He dished out seven assists to go along with a new

career-high of 16 points on 6 for 9 shooting and pulling in five rebounds. Clayton had his second game in four attempts on the season in which he dished out seven or more assists without committing a turnover.

Clayton has been one of the most efficient point guards in the country to begin the season, as he ranks 38th in assist-turnover ratio.

Gedi Juozapaitis kept up his hot-shooting to begin his tenure as a Black Bear, as he shot four of six from 3-point range. His 63.2% from 3-point range ranks him ninth in the country in that category.

ABOUT THE BLUE DEVILS:

CCSU is coming off of a tough 2-point loss against UMBC back on Sunday, Nov. 20, a 76-78 defeat.

Davonte Sweatman led the scoring for CCSU in the losing effort back on Sunday, as he was a perfect 7 of 7 from the field, including 3 of 3 from 3-point range as he scored 17. He also grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists.

Joe Ostrowsky (16), Kellen Amos (13) and Andre Snoddy (13) rounded out the top scorers for CCSU against UMBC. Snoddy turned in a double-double performance in the loss, grabbing 12 rebounds to go along with his 13 points.
