PREVIEW: Men's Basketball Takes on Columbia in The Pit

Black Bears Riding Two-Game Win Streak into Contest

HISTORY:

These will be the eighth matchup between these two sides all-time with Columbia holding the all-time series lead at 5-2. Columbia won the last matchup between these two sides back on Dec. 4, 2021.

ABOUT THE BLACK BEARS:

Maine is coming off of one of their most impressive non-conference wins in recent program history, a 69-64 victory over ACC opponent Boston College back on Monday, Nov. 14.

The Black Bears were in complete control during the winning performance, never trailing in the contest and holding a double-digit lead for a combined 3 minutes and 12 seconds in the contest.

Kellen Tynes had a breakout game for the Black Bears as he dropped his first double-double of the season, scoring 17 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. He also dished out five assists, swiped two steals and had a blocked shot.

Peter Filipovity had another strong game for the Black Bears off the bench as he was second on the team with 16 points in the winning performance. He shot 60% from the field, including two of three from 3-point range, and grabbed five rebounds.

Ja'Shonté Wright-McLeish (12) and Kristians Feierbergs (11) also scored double-digits for the Black Bears in the win.

The Black Bears will be looking to win three games in a row for the first time since 2019-20.

ABOUT THE LIONS:

Columbia is coming off of their first win of the 2022-23 season, a 70-65 victory over Delaware St.

Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa led his squad with a 21 point outing in the win. He knocked down 13 of 13 from the free throw line while pulling in five rebounds, dishing out three assists and swiping four steals.

Cameron Shockley-Okeke was second on his squad with 10 points in the win.

Rubio De La Rosa has been getting it done in the early going for his squad, as his 15 points per game currently leads his squad.
