Murray named Defensive Line Coach

Orono, Maine – University of Maine head football coach Jordan Stevens has announced that Bryan Anthony Murray (Coach BAM) has been added to the coaching staff as the Black Bears defensive line coach, effective Feb. 1.

"Bryan is a tremendous teacher and role model," Stevens says. "Bryan will develop our players on and off the field as well as in the classroom. Our players will thrive under his leadership. I'm excited to see our defensive line compete and push each other under Bryan's guidance."

Coach BAM joins the Black Bears after spending three seasons as the defensive line coach at Slippery Rock University. While at Slippery Rock, Coach BAM played a key role in the development of four all-conference linemen, three all-region honorees, and two all-americans; one of which went on to lead the PSAC in total sacks. In 2019, Coach BAM served on a staff which guided Slippery Rock to a 13-1 mark, a spot in the national semifinals, and a No. 6 final ranking in the AFCA poll. In addition to his assistant coach role at Slippery Rock, Coach BAM also served an administrative role as Coordinator for Academic Progress where he worked primarily with readmitted students as an Academic Success and Career Coach.

Prior to his time at Slippery Rock, Coach BAM served two seasons as a defensive graduate assistant under head coach Luke Fickell at the University of Cincinnati.

Coach BAM began his coaching career as the assistant varsity football coach for three seasons at Newton North High School in Newton, Mass.

A 2011 graduate of Boston College, Coach BAM was a three-year letterwinner and one year starter for the Eagles. In his senior year, Coach BAM was elected team captain by his peers. Coach BAM earned a Bachelor of Arts in Human Development and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with a minor in Sociology from Boston College. In 2013, Coach BAM obtained his Masters of Arts in Applied Development and Educational Psychology from Boston College.
