PREVIEW: Men's Basketball Heads to Vermont

ORONO, ME - The University of Maine men's basketball team heads on the road to Vermont as they face off against the top seed in America East on Saturday, Jan. 29.

A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:

The Black Bears are coming off of a loss at UNH, 73-61.

Vukasin Masic and Maks Klansjcek have been the stories of the week for the Black Bears. Both Black Bears dropped career-highs of 25 points a piece in Maine's first conference win of the season back on Monday, Jan. 24. Masic followed up his big night with another solid night of 12 points at UNH on Wednesday, Jan. 26.

Sam Ihekwoaba (4-time AE Rookie of the Week) led all Black Bears in the losing effort at UNH, scoring 13 in the contest, while also dishing out 4 assists and grabbing 4 rebounds.

A LOOK AT VERMONT:

Vermont is off to a 6-0 start in conference, with their most recent win coming against Stony Brook on Wednesday, Jan. 26, a 80-67 victory.

Ben Shungu (21 pts), Ryan Davis (20 pts) and Eric Beckett (13 pts) led the charge offensively for th Catatmounts.

On the season, Davis (17.5 ppg, 5.9 reb) has been the leading scorer for the Catamounts. Shungu (15.2 pts) and Isaiah Powell (10.3 ppg, 6.7 reb) have been key contributors to the early success.

The Catamounts come into the matchup against Maine leading the conference in a high number of              statistical catergories, including: Assists per game, Field-Goal Percentage, Scoring Defense, Scoring Margin, and a few others.

HISTORY AGAINST VERMONT:

Saturday's matchup will be the 126th matchup all-time between Maine and Vermont, with Vermont holding a slim lead in the all-time matchup, 75-70. The last time these squads met was back on Jan. 17, 2021, a 88-60 victory for the Catamounts. Steph Ingo (15 pts) and Lechaun DuHart (8 pts) were among the top performers for Maine. Justin Mazzulla (23 pts, 5 reb) and Ryan Davis (17 pts, 5 reb) were the top players for Vermont in the contest.
