ORONO, ME -- The University of Maine men's basketball team heads out on the road for a conference matchup against the Riverhawks of UMass Lowell on Wednesday, Jan. 19.

A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
Maine is coming off of a weekend matchup against the Bearcats of Binghamton, in which they came out on the losing end of a 73-65 contest.
Maine has been lead by their effort on the defensive end, which leads to them being the 2nd ranked team in America East in steals per game, registering 8.3 per contest. This also ranks the Black Bears 51st in the country.
The player that is coming in as a player to watch out for is Sam Ihekwoaba, who has been named the   America East Rookie of the Week for the third straight week as he continues to light up the scoring column for the Black Bears. Ihekwoaba has scored 53 points through his first three career confernce games (17.7 PPG).
A LOOK AT UMASS LOWELL
The Riverhawks are coming off of a defeat at America East rival Albany on Jan. 12, a 57-47 loss.
Despite, the loss, the Riverhawks come in as a team who has had a strong start to the season given their 9-7 record. Everette Hammond is the leading scorer for the UMass Lowell squad, averaging 10.8 PPG. He is also bringing in 3.8 reb and has 25 steals on the season.
Thomas Kalil (10.6 PPG, 4.4 reb) and Max Brooks (10.2 PPG, 6.1 reb) round out the top three performers for the Riverhawks offensively.
HISTORY AGAINST UMASS LOWELL
These two squads will face off for the 19th time in history on Wednesday. The Riverhawks have the series lead over the Black Bears, holding a 12-5 record over the Black Bears. The last time these two met was back on Feb. 12, 2020, where the Riverhawks won 71-63. Steph Ingo (8 pts, 4 reb) and Ja'Shonte Wright-McLeish (8 pts, 3 reb, 2 stl) where among the top performers for the Black Bears. Connor Withers (17 pts, 7 reb) and Ron Mitchell (16 pts, 8 reb, 3 a) were the leading players for the Riverhawks.
