ORONO - Coming off a 2-0 weekend, the Maine field hockey program looks to continue their hot streak this weekend when they open their America East schedule against No. 20 Monmouth and Stanford on Friday and Sunday in Orono.
Both games will be broadcast domestically on ESPN+ and ESPN3 and internationally on AmericaEast.tv.
Monmouth boasts a 5-3 overall record and a No. 20 ranking in the latest NFHCA Poll, most recently blanking Providence 7-0. Annick van Lange and Hanna McKie did most of the damage themselves, scoring five of the seven total goals. Those two along with Sophie Dercksen, who has tallied a goal and three assists, will be the players to keep an eye on for the Hawks.
For Sunday's matchup against Stanford, the Black Bears will look to key on goal and point leaders Lynn Vanderstichele and Haley Mossmer. Both have recorded 2 goals for 4 points in their young season. Stanford started slow, losing their first two games before getting one in the win column against Dartmouth. They'll get a warmup before coming to Orono on Friday when they play the Vermont Catamounts in Burlington on Friday.
This weekend, Maine will rely on their big players to be productive to balance, primarily forward Brooke Sulinski who leads the squad and conference with seven goals including three this past weekend.
The Maine offense has been able to spread the wealth so far, the 17 total goals scored have been notched by six players. Hana Davis has recorded three goals so far in just four games and Sydney Meader, Chloe Walton, and Poppy Lambert have all scored two goals apiece.
Mia Borely has started all eight contests for the Black Bears this season, posting an impressive .753 save percentage on the year and saving 55 of the 73 shots faced.
Maine will take on Monmouth on Friday at 3 PM at the UMaine Field Hockey Complex, and then Sunday's matinee versus Stanford will begin at noon.
