Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Bears fall to No. 5 Northwestern, 5-0

Mia Borley sets a career-high with 16 saves

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Maine field hockey program fell to the No. 5 Northwestern on Sunday afternoon, despite a career-high 16 saves from Mia Borley in net.

Northwestern scored the opening goal just 3:16 into the action, and never let up from there adding two in the second and a goal in each of the final two frames to take a 5-0 victory from the Black Bears.

Despite the final result, netminder Mia Borley put together one of the best statistical outings in recent Maine history. The senior posted a career-high 16 saves in net, a number not reached since the 1994 season. She ended up facing 20 shots on the day, with Mallory Drayer finishing the last 7:23 in goal and allowing one goal on four shots.

The Black Bears will return to Orono sporting a 1-5 record thus far this season. They'll try to get back into the win column on Friday afternoon in Orono, hosting Merrimack College at 3:00 followed by a date with Northeastern on Sunday afternoon.
