Three Black Bears Set to Represent Their Countries at the 2021 IIHF Women's World Championship

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team will have three players represent the Black Bears at the 2021 IIHF Women's World Championship.

Sophomore Rahel Enzler (Switzerland), freshman Mira Seregely (Hungary), and junior Amalie Andersen (Denmark) will all represent their countries at the World Championship.

The tournament is set for August 20-31, 2021. The WinSport Arena at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, Alberta, will play host to all 31 games of the championship.

Originally, the tournament was set for Halifax and Truro, Nova Scotia from May 6-16, 2021. On April 21, the IIHF and Hockey Canada postponed the tournament due to safety concerns associated with COVID-19. The 2020 championship was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Andersen has played for Team Denmark since the 2014-15 season, Seregely's first season for Team Hungary was 2017-18, and Enzler has represented Team Switzerland since 2014-15.

Switzerland won the bronze in 2014 and is currently ranked fifth in the world. Denmark and Hungary are ranked 11th and 12th, respectively, in the IIHF world rankings.

Black Bear alumni, Vendula Prubylova and Theresa Vanisova, will play for the Czech Republic at the championship.
