BALTIMORE -- The University of Maine softball team was swept in a doubleheader by the UMBC Retrievers by a score of 0-11 and 0-7 on Saturday afternoon.

Game #1 - Maine: 0 UMBC: 11

In the bottom of the second inning, UMBC broke the scoreless tie with a one run single down the left field line. The Retrievers followed the single with two separate two-run doubles to left center. After two complete in Baltimore, Maine trailed 5-0.

In the bottom of the third inning, UMBC scored two runs on a fielding error committed by the Black Bears' infield. The Retrievers pushed two more across on two singles. At the end of three innings, Maine was down 9-0. In the fourth inning, UMBC added two more. Game one would end in the fifth as the Retrievers run-ruled the Black Bears, 11-0.Â

Notes:
- Lilly Volk (0-2) started and lasted two innings. The Maine native allowed five earned. Emily Reid and Caitlyn Fallon combined to finish the America East contest. The two allowed four runs and struck out one.
- Kya Enos recorded two singles in the first game of the day, while Jasmine Gray and Keely Clark each finished with one.
Game #2 - Maine: 0 UMBC: 4

The first runs of the second game of the day were scored in the bottom of the fourth inning. After getting runners to second and third, UMBC launched a three-run home run.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Retrievers drove home another run on a double. After five complete, Maine trailed 4-0. It would be the final score of the afternoon as the Black Bears dropped the second game of the day.

Notes:
- Kyleigh O'Donnell (9-5) went 6.0 innings for the Black Bears. The senior allowed four earned and struck out three.
- Jasmine Gray recorded the two Black Bear hits.
Next: The Black Bears and Retrievers will finish the series tomorrow. First pitch for the finale game is set for 12:00 pm.
