ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine softball team was defeated by the Stony Brook Seawolves by a score of 7-0 on Sunday morning.
 
Maine: 0 Stony Brook: 7
 
In the top of the first inning, the Seawolves scored three earned runs. A double, hit by pitch, sacrifice bunt, sacrifice fly, and another double were the undoing of the Black Bears. After the top of the first inning, Maine trailed 3-0.
 
After reaching on an error, Julianna Sanzone came around the score on a ground out to second base. The Black Bears were looking at a 4-0 deficit after two complete.
 
In the top of the fifth and sixth innings, Nicole McCarvill and Jordyn Nowakowski each launched home runs over the right field fence. The Seawolves added another run in the top of the 6th to take a 7-0 lead.
 
Maine was unable to mount a comeback as they dropped the final game of the weekend, 7-0.
 
Notes:

• Kyleigh O'Donnell (9-4) went the first 5.2 innings for the Black Bears. The senior struck out five while allowing six earned runs. Lilly Volk finished the America East game. The Maine native tallied two strikeouts and only allowed two hits.
• Jasmine Gray and Keely Clark each recorded two hits. Kya Enos and Grace McGouldrick both chipped in with singles.

Next: The Black Bears will hit the road for UMBC next weekend. First pitch for Saturday, May 1st is scheduled for 1:00 pm in Baltimore, Maryland.
