ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine softball team split an afternoon doubleheader with Stony Brook University by scores of 0-3Â and 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.

Game One - Maine: 0 Stony Brook: 3
Â
In the top of the fifth inning, Stony Brook recorded its first hit of the ball game. They also scored the first run of the contest. A bloop single, a sacrifice bunt, and a sacrifice fly brought around the first run of the America East game.

The Seawolves added another run after the Black Bears committed an error in the infield. Kira McFarland lined a single to center field driving in the second run of the morning. Melissa Rahrich followed the single with an RBI single of her own. Both of the runs were unearned. After the top of the 6th inning, Maine trailed 3-0.

The Black Bears were unable to mount a comeback as they dropped the first game of the morning.

Notes:
- Kyleigh O'Donnell (8-3) threw another complete game for the Black Bears. The senior struck out three while allowing only one earned run.
- Jasmine Gray recorded two hits, and Keely Clark lined a single.
Game Two - Maine: 3 Stony Brook: 2

In the bottom of the first inning, Maine scored its first run of the afternoon. With
Kya Enos standing on third base after singling and stealing a bag,
Kelby Drews singled to left. After one complete, the Black Bears led 1-0.

With the bases loaded in the top of the fifth inning, Nicole McCarvill delivered a two-out, two-RBI base knock. Both of the runs were unearned as the Black Bears had dropped a fly ball earlier in the inning.

The lead was short lived as Maine tied the America East contest in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Keely Clark crushed a double to the right field fence.
Mariah Pearson followed with a ground ball that found its way through the second baseman's legs and into the outfield. After five complete at the University of Maine, the conference foes were tied at two runs apiece.

Keely Clark singled in the bottom of the 7th,
Brianna Neely pinch ran for the catcher. Neely stole second, but the Stony Brook catcher threw the ball into the outfield. With ease, Neely rounded third and scored the game winning run. The Black Bears took the second game of the day, 3-2.

Notes:
- Caitlin Fallon went 2.0 innings and allowed no runs. Lilly Volk went 4.0 innings and did not allow an earned run, before being relieved by the game one starter, Kyleigh O'Donnell. The senior (9-3) recorded the final three outs.
- Keely Clark tallied two hits, and both Kya Enos and Kelby Drews recorded a hit. Brianna Neely scored the game winning run.
Next: The two squads will return to the field tomorrow, Sunday, April 25th to conclude the America East series. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 am.
