VISTAL, N.Y. -- The University of Maine softball team swept an afternoon doubleheader with Binghamton University by scores of 3-2 and 8-2 on Sunday afternoon.

Game One - Maine: 3 Binghamton: 2

In the bottom of the first inning, Mikayla Alvarez lifted an opposite field two-run home run. After one complete in Vistal, Maine trailed by two.

During Maine's next ups, they cut the lead in half.
Mariah Pearson doubled home
Jasmine Gray, who had reached earlier on a single. After two innings, the Black Bears trailed by a run.

Pearson drove in the next Maine run with a fielder's choice in the top of the fourth inning. The sophomore grounded out to shortstop but allowed
Izzy Nieblas to score.
Â
Instead of scoring a run, Nieblas drove home the go ahead run. With a double off the wall in the top of the fifth inning,
Kya Enos was able to cross the plate. It would be the final run of the game as Maine won game number one, 3-2.

Notes:
- Kyleigh O'Donnell threw another complete game for the Black Bears. The senior struck out 6 while allowing two runs.
- Izzy Nieblas recorded two hits and an RBI, while Mariah Pearson drove in two during the first game.
Game Two - Maine: 8 Binghamton: 2

In the top of the first inning, the Black Bears scored four runs.
Izzy Nieblas doubled home two runs, while
Kelby Drews blasted a two-run home run. After the first, Maine led 4-0.

In the top of the third inning,
Amanda Nee ripped a two-run single with the bases loaded. After the two run single,
Rebecca Findley lifted a sacrifice fly to deep left field. Drews added another RBI in the top of the fourth inning. Maine held an 8-0 lead after four complete.

Sophia Pappas ripped a two run single in the bottom of the fifth inning. It brought the Bearcats to within six.

It was as close as Binghamton would get as Maine swept the Sunday afternoon doubleheader.

Next: The Black Bears return home next Saturday, April 24. First pitch against Stony Brook is scheduled for noon.
