Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey improves to 5-1 in Conference with win over UAlbany

Freshman Poppy Lambert scores twice in 2-1 victory

ORONO - The University of Maine field hockey team picked up their fifth America East victory on Sunday afternoon, as they defeat UAlbany in Orono by a 2-1 final score behind two Poppy Lambert goals.

Chloe Walton drew a foul deep in the offensive scoring zone to setup a Maine penalty shot in the second quarter, as Poppy Lambert executed the ensuing free shot and put Maine up 1-0.

The score held until six minutes into the new half, when Lambert struck again with her fifth goal of the season on a corner play that was assisted by Tereza Holubcova and Brooke Sulinski

UAlbany answered right back less than thirty seconds later, but the Maine defense held strong the rest of the way and Mia Borley made two saves in the fourth quarter to seal the 2-1 victory.

Maine rises to 5-1 in the conference after today's action, with just two America East regular season games remaining in the spring season. They'll reunite with Stanford next, after the Cardinal eliminated Maine from the 2019 conference tournament with a semifinal shootout victory, at a neutral site contest hosted by UNH on April 15th. Then the Black Bears return home to wrap up their regular season on April 18th against UC-Davis in Orono.
