LOWELL, Mass. - The Black Bears got their conference season started on Friday afternoon, taking on the UMass-Lowell Riverhawks on the road and picking up a 3-2 victory behind a pair of
Hana Davis goals.
Maine has now won five of their last six America East games dating back to 2019, and have beat the Riverhawks 12 straight times.
UMass-Lowell came out swinging, notching a goal just 1:49 into the contest. Senior
Hana Davis responded for the Black Bears, scoring her ninth career goal and first of the season on a tip play at the 7:07 mark, followed by freshman
Poppy Lambert scoring her first career goal right before halftime to send Maine into the locker room with the 2-1 lead.
It was
Hana Davis again in the third quarter, scoring what would prove to be the difference maker on a loose ball rebound goal midway through the third. The Riverhawks responded in the fourth, but the Maine defense held them off the scoreboard for the final 5:33 to seal the 3-2 victory.
The win is Maine's first of the 2021 spring season, which will close on seven more conference games straight. Maine will get back to work tomorrow at UMass-Lowell, taking on California for the first time since 2018. Push back is scheduled for 2:30.
