AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Maine field hockey program fell to 0-2 on the young 2021 spring season on Friday afternoon, falling in a tight contest to the Minutewomen of UMass via a 2-1 final score.
Freshman
Tereza Holubcova put Maine up after a scoreless first half with her second goal in as many career games just over sixty seconds into the third quarter. UMass snapped right back however, tying things at one off a penalty stroke goal four minutes later. The score held all the way through until the clock showed just 1:18 remaining in the fourth quarter, as UMass picked up the game-winner off a penalty corner to sneak away with the narrow 2-1 victory.
Holbucova was the only source of Maine offense, in a game that saw just 13 shots on goal total (7-6 UMass).
Maine is scheduled to take on UMass-Lowell in their America East opener next Friday in Lowell.
