In the latest meeting, Maine rattled off 23-unanswered points in the third quarter, outscoring the Great Danes 23-3 in the quarter, en route to a 16 points win. Maine produced 426 total yards as Joe Fagnano threw for 257 yards and four touchdowns, including a 90 yard strike to Andre Miller. Ori Jean-Charles recorded a touchdown on both sides of the ball as he returned an interception 47 yards for a score before catching a two yard touchdown.
- Maine is 3-4 at home in the series and has won two in a row at home against the Great Danes. The Black Bears defeated UAlbany 28-9, in the last meeting in Orono in 2018. Maine has won seven of the last nine meetings. The first contest between the two teams came in 1977, a 42-39 victory by the Great Danes in Orono. This meeting marks the 12th consecutive year in which the two teams have faced off. Maine is 7-4 over that stretch against the Great Danes.
- The Great Danes, who ended the 2019 season winners of five of their last six including their first-ever FCS playoff win, started the 2021 spring season strong with a 24-20 victory at No. 13 New Hampshire. Quarterback Jeff Undercuffler went 23-for-36 for 192 yards and three touchdowns in the win. UAlbany, which trailed 14-7 at the half, outscored the Wildcats 17-6 in the second half. - Last time out, the Black Bears dropped a 37-0 decision on the road at No. 25 Delaware. In the contest, Maine saw the return of All-American Deshawn Stevens who returned to action for the first time since suffering a torn Achilles tendon in the 2019 season opener. Stevens settled in right where he left off, posting 10 tackles. Fellow linebacker Adrian Otero added 11 stops, his fifth double-digit tackling performance of his career. Jordan Swann notched Maine's first interception of the season, and the first of his career. Maine's veteran offensive line did not surrender a sack in the season opener.
