Field Hockey falls in Season Opener to Boston College, 5-3

Holubcova, Walton, and Hartley score for Maine

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass - The University of Maine played their first ever February game on Sunday afternoon, falling to Boston College by a 5-3 final score in the first game of the 2021 spring season.

Boston College, coming off a three-game fall schedule and playing their first game of the spring season, came out and almost instantly took a 1-0 lead. Tereza Holubcova scored her first career goal seven minutes later to tie things at 1-1, but a BC goal with just over ninety seconds remaining sent them into the break with a 2-1 lead.

The third period was all BC, as they scored two goals that would prove pivotal heading into the final quarter. Madisyn Hartley got Maine going to open the fourth quarter, and Chloe Walton scored her first of the year with three minutes remaining, but it wasn't enough as BC notched an insurance goal in the quarter to seal the 5-3 win.

Mia Borley made eleven saves in net, tying her career high. Shots on goal were 16-9 in the Eagle's favor, but Maine posted a 6-1 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Maine now has quite a bit of open space on their schedule as it stands, they're next scheduled to take on America East foe UMass-Lowell in Massachusetts on March 19th followed by a match with California the next day.
