Gorham, Maine -- The University of Maine women's track & field team opened its 2021 spring competition schedule on Friday, Feb. 26 against Southern Maine and New Hampshire in a meet hosted by the University of Southern Maine.

The Black Bears opened the season with three field events on Friday evening. Freshman Rebekah Hunnewell-Dunphe had an impressive debut as she took home first place honors in the shot put with a top throw of 11.60m (38-00.75). Sarah Vanacore followed Hunnewell-Dunphe with a runner-up showing in the event with a best throw of 11.54m (37-10.50).

Oliviah Damboise was Maine's top placer in the pole vault as she posted a fifth place finish after clearing 3.05m (10-00.00).

Erica Magnuson placed second in the weight throw with a final best toss of 15.87m (52.01-00).

The Black Bears close out the weekend meet against Southern Maine and New Hampshire on Saturday with competition set to begin at 11 a.m.
