ORONO, Maine -- For the first time since October 27, 2019, when the University of Maine women's soccer team concluded its 2019 season, the Black Bears are set for a live, varsity competition. The women's soccer team will begin the 2021 season with a game at Merrimack. Maine and Merrimack kick-off the spring schedule with a Sunday matinee at 1 p.m.

ABOUT MAINE
The Black Bears return three of their top five scorers from the 2019 season,
Julia Mahoney,
Saylor Clark, and
Gaby Panagakos. Mahoney finished the season with seven points, while Clark and Panagakos eached scored two goals for Maine.

Kira Kutzinski, who played in nine games last season, returns for her junior season. The Bünde, Germany native recorded a 1.52 GAA and .741 save percentage over her time in net.

ABOUT MERRIMACK
The Warriors return all five of their top scorers from 2019 in Molly Murnane, Izzy McDonnell, Bridget Austin, Taylor Robertson, and Hallie Shiers. They combined for 10 goals and eight assists.

Megan Langlois is the only returning goalkeeper for Merrimack. The senior recorded a 2.45 GAA and .638 save percentage.

HISTORY
The Black Bears and Warriors have only met one time in their program's histories. Maine won the lone match-up. In 2019, Merrimack traveled to Orono and was defeated by the Black Bears, 3-1.
