A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS
The Black Bears are heading to Quinnipiac with a tough defensive group, one of which ranks near the top of the country in turnovers forced and steals per game. Maine is ranked 61st in the country in turnovers forced at 16.29 per game, which also ranks them second in the America East conference.
To go along with their large turnovers forced, Maine also finds themselves 47th in the country in steals per game, checking in at a 9.0 steals per game. That ranks them first in the America East conference. The Black Bears are also doing a great job of cashing in at the free throw line, ranking 84th in the country and second in America East with a 73.8 percent as a team. Maine also commits the 5th fewest fouls in the conference, gaining them554th nationally in the category at 122 on the season.
A LOOK AT QUINNIPIAC
Quinnipiac with head back to their home court after a 2-game road win streak, in which they beat conference opponent Manhattan on Sun. Dec. 5th, 90-73, and most recently defeated non-conference opponent Dartmouth on Wed. Dec 8th, 72-69. In the Dartmouth matchup, the Bobcats were led by Matt Balanc, who poured in 23 points on a 0-15 night shooting. Teammates Jacob Rigoni (12 pts) and Dezi Jones (10 pts, 6 rebs, 3a) were also key contributors to the scoring. Kavin Marfo led his squad with 8 rebounds in the contest.
HISTORY AGAINST QUINNIPIAC
Maine and Quinnipiac square off for the 13th time in history, and the first since 2019. In the 2019 meeting, Maine fell to the Bobcats by a final of 81-61 at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine. Steph Ingo and Ja'Shonte Wright-McLeish are the only currently Black Bears who appeared in that game as Ingo nabbed one rebound while Wright-McLeish dished out a pair of assists. Maine is 3-3 all-time on the road against Quinnipiac and last defeated the Bobcats on the road in 2017, a 78-72 victory. That win was also Maine's last in the all-time series. The first meeting between the two teams came on Nov. 20, 2007, a 64-59 victory for the Black Bears at Quinnipiac.
