Simons posts 26 points in the road win

Boston, Mass. -- Anne Simon posted a season-high 26 points while Maeve Carroll added the 13th double-double of her career as the University of Maine women's basketball team earned a 59-57 victory at Boston University on Sunday afternoon.

In a game which featured nine lead changes and five ties, Maine was able to erase an eight point deficit to earn their second consecutive road victory. The Black Bears outscored Boston University 19-10 in a strong third quarter to help propel them to victory.

Simon led all scorers while going 11-for-21 from the field with four steals, three rebounds, and three assists. Carroll tallied a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds, just one shy of her career high, while Bailey Wilborn came off the bench to hit four triples for 12 points for the second-straight game.

Maine's defense forced a season-best 22 turnovers, 12 of which coming in the second half.

Boston University was able to build a six point lead early in the first quarter before Maine answered with a 7-0 run, taking its first lead of the game on a layup from Adrianna Smith with 3:49 left in the period.

The Terriers responded, regaining a six point edge to end the first quarter. The Black Bears cut the deficit to one when Simon recorded double-digits for the fifth time this season on a late second quarter bucket.

Boston University responded with a 7-0 run to take its largest lead of the ballgame, 28-20, before entering the half with a six point advantage.

Maine came out of the half on fire, staging a 7-0 run on buckets from Simon and Carroll to take a 29-28 lead.

Back-to-back triples from Wilborn gave Maine a three point edge before Simon rifled a pass through the paint to Olivia Rockwood for two, lifting Maine to a five point advantage.

The Terriers fought back in the fourth and were able to tie the score four times and take the lead once.

With the game tied at 53-all, Alba Orois hit a three from the top of the key to put Maine on top, 56-53, with 1:46 to play.

Consecutive buckets from Childs gave the Terriers a 57-56 advantage before Carroll was able to draw a foul. Carroll hit one of two free throws, tying things at 57 with 11-seconds to play.

The Terriers would turn it over on their next possession as Carroll came up with the steal before Simon drew a foul on the opposite end. Simon would hit both free throws, breaking the tie and putting Maine on top by two.

Boston University had a chance to tie it late but its three-point attempt would come up short as the Black Bears earned the hard fought road win, 59-57.

Maine is back in action on Friday, Nov. 26 when it travels to take on Army at 3 p.m.
