Black Bears earn first win of the season, 71-52

Ingo finishes with a double-double

Bangor, Maine -- The University of Maine men's basketball team earned its first win of the season as the Black Bears defeated UMaine Farmington, 71-52, on Friday evening at the Cross Insurance Center. The contest marked Maine's first time playing in front of its home crowd in 622 days.

Stephane Ingo led the way for Maine as the senior finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season to go along with four blocks. Fofo Adetogun added 11 points while LeChaun Duhart chipped in nine points and five rebounds.

Maine saw 10 of its players find their way into the scoring column as the Black Bears finished the contest 26-of-72 from the floor while hitting 15-of-20 free throws. Defensively, Maine limited Farmington to 32.7 percent from the floor while forcing 26 turnovers with 16 steals.

The Black Bears were unable to distance themselves from the Beavers in the early going as they found themselves tied midway through the opening half. However, a 10-0 run by the Black Bears gave the hosts a 23-13 advantage with 7:10 left in the first half.

Farmington cut the lead to one late in the first but the Black Bears would end the half on a 6-0 run to carry a 35-28 edge into the break.

Maine held Farmington without a field goal over the opening five minutes of the second half. The Black Bears opened the stanza with a 11-6 run, stretching the deficit to 12 at 46-34.

After the Beavers trimmed the lead down to eight, Maine responded with a 13-0 run to take its largest lead of the game, 69-48, with 1:56 to play.

Maine would cruise the rest of the way, securing a 71-52 victory.

The Black Bears are back in action on Monday when they travel to take on Colorado at 8 p.m.
