Maine falls to Vermont, 3-1

Black Bears secure postseason berth despite the loss

BURLINGTON, Vt. - The University of Maine field hockey team dropped their first contest in over a month on Friday afternoon, falling to the Vermont Catamounts by a 3-1 final score.

The loss is Maine's first of the conference season and drops their America East record to 5-1.

Despite the loss, Maine clinched their 14th consecutive trip to the America East playoffs due to results around the league. The Black Bears are the first team to clinch a spot in the postseason.

Brooke Sulinski scored the lone Black Bear goal, her tenth of the season tying things up at 1-1 in the third quarter.

The Catamounts responded just 42 seconds later, regaining the lead and extending it late in the fourth to seal the 3-1 victory.

Maine's overall record drops to 9-6 overall this season, and they'll look to get back on track with a non-conference tilt against Bryant on Sunday afternoon.
