Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Black Bears Win Eighth Straight, defeat UC-Davis 6-0

One of just seven Maine teams all-time with an 8+ game win streak

ORONO - The University of Maine field hockey program continued their winning ways on Sunday afternoon, dominating end-to-end in a 6-0 win over UC-Davis for their eighth consecutive victory.

Only seven teams in Maine field hockey history have strung together eight or more wins in a row, with this 2021 squad becoming the eighth. Teams in 1975, 2014, 2015, and 2018 matched the eight-game streak, while 1996 and 2002 saw win streaks of nine, and the 2011 squad set a record with 11 consecutive victories.

Maine dominated this one end-to-end, outshooting UC-Davis 27-7 and 17-2 in shots on goal. Sydney Meader scored the first goal of the day in the first quarter, her fifth off the season off Hana Davis' first assist of the season. Davis would come back around and score her sixth goal of the season in the second quarter, extending her scoring streak to three straight games. Chloe Walton and Poppy Lambert scored twice to raise their goal totals to ten and seven respectively, and Madisyn Hartley, Brittany Smith, and Brooke Sulinski all registered two assists each to round out the score sheet.

With their sparkling 5-0 conference record, Maine sits atop the America East conference by a wide margin with California and UAlbany tied for second place with 3-1 records.

The scorching hot Black Bears will take their show on the road next weekend, traveling to take on Vermont on Friday afternoon in Burlington before competing against Bryant in a neutral site non-conference matchup at the University of New Hampshire on Sunday.
